  Of all the #$%&^!@ I was taught as a child, what still offends me the most---was not all the xmas and birthday parties and fun I missed out on--it was that 1(one) BIG LIE. Having been raised as a JW, I was taught from as long as I can remember, that I was part of the generation that would not experience death, yes, I was going to survive armageddon and be one of the pioneers ( a pioneer not only in this old system) of the New Order here on earth!!

  I believed this until I left in my early 20s. In retrospect it is just ridiculus. What is more disturbing to me is that I believed it!

  Well, at any rate, I had great fun making up for all the "lost time" ( and I don't mean preaching door to door).

  lifting the viel

  do you remeber that bit in the bible about lifting the viel of the unbelivers.and the blind leading the blind over a cliff .they were always about going with the wrong church a dn learning more things about jehovahs true ppl.. .

  but now i feel like im getting another viel lifted and im seeing the society in a totally new way.. why did i never see it before?

  I think you nailed it; I believe that the WTBTS does become attractive, not so much to a specific person, but people who, ( and we have all been there) are at some point in their life vulnerable or are looking for something, or trying to make sense of something; or need additional structure to cliing to.

  It takes hold violently with some, and slower with others. In my eperiences, if people are level headed and secure in their lives, they have no need for those "fundamental " beliefs. If I have offended some with that statement, I do apologize. Some people were raised with the faith and had no choice. There are people who are secure in their beliefs as JWs, and I wish them well--fortunately we live in a time and place where you have the freedom to worship as you please.

  the perspective of which this thread is slanted takes its "que" from the scriptures you posted. If you do not recognize either the Hebrew or Christian scriptures as "sacred" ; then they are viewed as a book of ancient writings; remnents of an ancient culture which no longer exists and is out of place in contemporary life.

  I have to agree with Spiritwalker here, and just about everyone else posting; and take a far more secular ( health issues put aside) view on sex.

  is'nt it interesting how things like reading the actual bible and becoming a more loving husband are all the way at the bottom.

  i guess they arent as important as cleaning the hall or sending them money and not nearly as important as going to meetings and reading their books so the indoctrinization can begin.

  that is a great shot. I am posting from Long Island and the leaves are just turning here also. Beautiful everywhere you look ( and I don't have to go out in service--isnt that great!)

  International Freedom Fest going strong

  we are having so much fun talking with everyone.

  there are about 30 here tonight, and we just had dinner, ...............chicken on the bbq, coleslaw, and lots of good appetizers.. angharad, and "her ladyship" (also known as englishman's wife), and inky are in the hot tub, and there are little groups of conversation going on all over the house and outside on the deck.. cruzanheart, bigtex and sixofnine got here a few minutes ago.

  there are 8 from england so far, including a very nice couple who were on my flight from atlanta.. several of us went out on joy and steve's big sailboat for several hours and it was so fun, and relaxing.. tomorrow we get ready for the big halloween party.

  My Girlfriend's a JW, but I am not, What to do???

  just wondering if anyone can help, so heres a little insight into the situation.. we've been friens for ages but she always told me we could be nothing more she said "theres stuff you dont know about me & you wouldnt understand" but one night i kinda hinted that i knew and she fessed up not only bout being a jw but also bout how she felt only thing is she says its not gonna work, but she wants it to work she wants me to convert and i want her to leave the orgainization.

  her mothers been a witness for ten years but her father is not.

  also she hasnt paid much attention to it either till a few months ago and shes starting to get into it now.

  Economy upswing

  according to the gdp, as reported by msnbc, we just finished a record growth period unseen in 19 years.

  the economy grew by 7.2%.

  this is great news, and i hope all benefit from all of this.

  I am still waiting...Architects are the first to feel the pinch of recession....and the first to see the upswing coming....if our drawing boards ( computers these days) are busy with designs--you know that there will be new construciton coming, new jobs in construction, etc.

  a jw relative brought out something i actually had to agree with.

  we were discussing positive vs. negative aspects of the "truth".

  she brought out that the witnesses do not participate in war, and i thought 'gee, that's probably a good thing'.

  looking back...

  I can only give the JW teachings credit for all the SELF DISCIPLINE I learned to have.....

  My experiences in life since those days ( which has been very positive) have taught me to disagree with everything else they taught..
